As many of you may know, the week of the Fourth of July is known as Cowboy Christmas. It has been given this name because it is a time when cowboys can compete in many rodeos and win a lot of money in a very short period of time. This time period can be crucial in whether or not they qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Last week I made two stops on the Cowboy Christmas trail.
Thursday I left for the St. Paul rodeo, however had a few complications on the way! While I was traveling on I-84 a brush fire began and they had to close the freeway. We sat on the freeway for almost an hour in the 96 degree weather! Then I was behind time of when I planed on arriving at St. Paul, but luckily I had gave myself an extra hour of travel time. Just when I thought I was in the clear, I hit Portland at 5pm and sat in traffic for another 40 minutes! After all of my obstacles I still managed to get to St. Paul with a little time to spare! While in St. Paul, I was introduced in the grand entry. Thank you to Mitch Coleman for letting me borrow one of his pickup horses! After grand entry, I was able to watch the rodeo and mingle with the audience. Thank you to the St. Paul Rodeo Committee for allowing me to participate in your amazing rodeo! When the rodeo was over, I retired back to my host family home. I stayed with Lynn Haynes. She is the Miss Rodeo Oregon Association National Director. Thank you for allowing me to stay the night at your house Lynn! In the morning, Lynn and I were going to leave at 6am to go to St. Paul for a TV interview. However, I encountered ANOTHER travel disaster. When Lynn and I were leaving her house she told me to pull up into her front yard to turn around. Well it sounded like an easy enough task until I got stuck! My truck kept spinning out in her yard and ripping up grass. By the time we got my truck out of her yard there were about 5 different skid marks all over her front yard! I felt so bad! I just sat there and couldn't believe what had just happened! Lynn is such a sweet woman and kept telling me not to worry about it. We did still make it to the TV interview on time, and had the chance to tell the other royalty about our humorous morning!
After the interview, Miss Rodeo Oregon Jackie Gibson and I went back to her house to get some much needed rest before we headed to the Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo in the evening. After we napped for a couple hours, we drove to Molalla. Luckily, there were no travel issues this time! I stayed in Molalla Friday through Sunday. I had the opportunity to visit with many people from Washington that were working at the rodeo! These people included barrelman JJ Harrison, Bullfighters Rowdy Barry and Danny Newman, Miss Wrangler Rodeo Laura Lee Barry, Big Bend and Flying 5 Rodeo Company. I also met many rodeo fans that were from Washington! The Molalla Rodeo Committee was very welcoming. Helping at the Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo was a enjoyable experience. Scooter, who is on the rodeo committee loaned me his roping horse Roman to use for the weekend. Thank you Scooter! I appreciate you bringing Roman for me to ride! He was great! Also, a special thank you to Jim Hart for allowing me to ride in the Dodge Rodeo truck in the parade! It was a very eventful weekend, and I made many memories that I will remember for a lifetime!
Until next time, ride tall in the saddle!

Crooked River Roundup
Prineville, Oregon was my home away from home last weekend! It is rodeo season so I am gone more than I am home, but I wouldn't trade this opportunity for anything! This year will be a year that I remember for the rest of my life! While enjoying the good life in Prineville at the Crooked River Roundup, I got to participate in three nights of rodeo! JJ Harrison from Walla Walla, Washington was the barrelman. He was the emcee for my coronation in January, so it was sure nice to see a familiar face! When I wasn't at the rodeo, I visited the car show, watched the Queen's Barrel Race, attended the Queen's Luncheon and painted stick horses with children in the park. One of my favorite events was painting stick horses with the kids. It was a free activity for all kids where they could be creative and paint their own stick horse. Then all of the kids who painted stick horses in the park Saturday got the opportunity to participate in a stick horse race during the Sunday rodeo performance. I have gotten to meet so many great rodeo committees this year, and the Crooked River Roundup Committee was no exception. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Thank you for letting me take part in your rodeo!
See ya down the rodeo trail!

3,129 miles of travel!
I just returned from eleven days and 3,129 miles of traveling! During these eleven days, I have had the chance to attend many different events.
During my first day of travel I met up with Miss Rodeo Idaho Freya Ford in Boise, ID. Then we headed to the Eagle, ID rodeo where we did presentation runs and pushed cattle. Thank you to Jodie Perkins for letting me borrow your wonderful horse and opening your home to me.
The next day Freya and I headed to Pocatello, ID for the Idaho High School Rodeo Queen Pageant. On our way to the pageant we received a call saying that we would be the emcees for the pageant because the current emcee had to cancel. However, the evening still went smooth even with stand-in emcees! After the pageant, we started our drive to North Platte, NE for NEBRASKAland Days.
We arrived in North Platte, NE on Sunday and attended a BBQ at Buck and Kathy Ewing's house that included all of the state queens, Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2010 contestants, Judges and chaperones. It was a great way to kick off our time in North Platte! They kept us extremely busy during NEBRASKAland Days. We participated in the Kid's Parade, signed hundreds of autographs during autograph sessions throughout the week, modeled in the fashion show, visited sponsors, rode in the grand entry of the Buffalo Bill Rodeo and much more! We also got to watch all of the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant events. Congratulations to Miss Rodeo Nebraska 2010 Michelle Boeshart! It was also a pleasant suprise to see Miss Rodeo Washington Association President Candy Gratton in North Platte as a judge! A huge thank you to the North Platte community for all of your generosity! The North Platte community was very welcoming! Thank you to all of the sponsors of the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant and Buffalo Bill Rodeo. These wonderful events would not be possible if it were not for you! While in North Platte, all of the visiting royalty was given a host family to stay with. I had the pleasure of staying with Nancy Quirk. She was so much fun, and made me feel at home! Thank you Nancy! You are the best! Before Miss Rodeo Idaho Freya Ford and Miss Rodeo Virgina Charla Wacker and I left Nebraska to head to Reno we stopped by Buffalo Bill's Ranch for a tour. It was very interesting learning more about Buffalo Bill, and touring his actual ranch. I truly enjoyed the time I spent in North Platte. Thank you Miss Rodeo Nebraska Amy Amack and the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Committee for inviting me to join you. It was great getting to know all of you better! Also, a special thank you to Lindy Hiatt and Paula Stobbs for getting all of us to our appearances!
After sixteen hours of driving we arrived in Reno, Nevada for "The Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West". This year was the 90th anniversary for the Reno Rodeo, and what a great one it was! During the rodeo, all of the visiting royalty were introduced from the chuck wagon or the stage coach. While in Reno, Patsy Ulch opened her beautiful home to all of the visiting royalty. Thank you for letting us stay at your house! Also, thank you to Selena Pope for helping us get to all of our events. I had so much fun getting to know Patsy and Selena better. They are great people! Unfortunately, we only got to spend three days in Reno. I could have stayed longer, but I feel fortunate to have even had the opportunity to attend the Reno Rodeo!
Until next time, Happy Trails!

Northwest Desert Classic Rodeo
What a WILD weekend! The Northwest Desert Classic Rodeo in Pasco was definitely the wildest rodeo I have attended this year! The rodeo started out as a calm, enjoyable evening until the rain, wind and lightening rolled in! Then all of the animals were feeling their energy! While committee members tackled the contestant hospitality tent courtesy of Cousins' that was blowing away outside, fans sat on the edge of their seats inside waiting to see what the next wild ride would bring! It was one exciting event after the next! Thankfully, the rodeo was indoors and it didn't storm all weekend. During the weekend, I got to make a few sponsor visits for the Northwest Desert Classic Rodeo. We signed autographs at Ranch and Home and greeted customers at Cousins'. During the rodeo I also got the privilege of helping push stock out of the arena. The Northwest Desert Classic Rodeo Committee was a pleasure to work with and I thank them for letting me participate in their rodeo. I would also like to thank rodeo announcer Bob Garrett. It was very enjoyable working with you this weekend and I hope to see you at more rodeos this summer!
Later this week, I head to Boise, ID to meet up with Miss Rodeo Idaho Freya Ford. We will be attending a few events in Idaho then taking a road trip to North Platte, NE for NebraskaLand Days! Then we are going to the Reno Rodeo on our way home! I will keep you posted on my travels!
Until next time, keep your cinch snug and go easy on the reins!

Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day weekend was a busy, fun weekend! The weekend started off Friday morning in Ellensburg for the Washington State High School Rodeo Queen Pageant. Although I did not get to stay for the whole pageant, I was lucky enough to watch the Horsemanship competition and attend lunch with the contestants. There were four contestants (Kelli Barichello, Jonnie Crossland, Tami Deines, Paige Witherow) competing for the title. The new Washington High School Rodeo Queen was crowned Monday after the short-go. Congratulations to the winner, Jonnie Crossland! I'm sure you will represent us well at Nationals! Thank you to the Queen Coordinator, Vicki Holleman - Perez for inviting me to attend the pageant!
Then it was off to my next destination, Coulee City! Friday night I attended the Bull-A-Rama! They had a great turn out of contestants and fans! During this time I got to sign autographs, mingle with fans and interview with PRCA announcer Wayne Brooks. Saturday morning I participated in the Coulee City parade! It had all types of entries! Little Miss Rodeo Washington Devin Gastelum and I rode our horses behind a float that played music and in front of a huge combine! Both of our horses handled all of the commotion very well! Thank you David Adams for letting me borrow your buckskin horse! He was a pleasure to ride all weekend! Also, a very special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Gastelum for being our pooper scoopers during the parade! After the parade I headed to the queen luncheon. The Last Stand Rodeo Queen Hannah Jo Call did a great job organizing the luncheon. Thank you for all of your generosity Hannah! Then is was time to hurry back and get ready for the rodeo at 2pm. This was my first time to attend the Last Stand Rodeo, and it was sure a fun one! Hannah and I kept busy during the whole rodeo! We pushed cattle, interviewed with announcer Wayne Brooks, mingled with fans, signed autographs at the Barry Chevrolet booth and presented the Dodge belt buckle. Thank you Pete and Barb Thiry for all of your hospitality and help over the weekend! It was great getting to know you! After the rodeo, I headed to Mr. and Mrs. Rice's house for a BBQ. At the BBQ I got to visit with the Last Stand Rodeo Committee and learn more about their wonderful rodeo! Thank you Rice family for inviting me to the BBQ at your home. I had a lot of fun! Sunday morning was slack, and there was another rodeo performance at 2pm. I truly enjoyed the Last Stand Rodeo! Please visit their website www.laststandrodeo.com.

Miss Rodeo Washington Association Clinic and Dodge Natonal Circuit Finals Rodeo
"From a Cowgirl's Dream to a Rodeo Queen" was the theme of the Miss Rodeo Washington Association Clinic held in Ellensburg April 4th and 5th. During these two information packed days we learned knowledge about nearly every aspect of being a rodeo queen. A few of the topics we covered were: rodeo knowledge, modeling, speech, interview, impromptu questions, dinner etiquette, hair and makeup. We also had very helpful question/answer sessions, which opened the opportunity for participants to ask any questions about rodeo queening that may not have been covered at another time during the clinic. Overall, is was a successful, productive clinic. Thank you to the Miss Rodeo Washington Association and Karie O'Donnell for producing this clinic!
After returning Sunday night from the clinic, I woke up Monday and headed to the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Pocatello, Idaho. I drove to Boise Monday and stayed the night, then headed to Pocatello on Tuesday. Shortly after arriving in Pocatello, other state queens and I headed to The Kick Off Party where we were introduced and had the opportunity to mingle with rodeo committees, contestants and fans. During The Kick Off Party, they held a duck roping contest. There were inflatable ducks in the pool and the goal was to rope one of the ducks. Of course I got convinced to attempt this task, which wasn't very easy in a leather dress! I came close to roping the duck, but I missed!
Wednesday was a action packed day that started with rehearsal on horseback for the opening of the first performance of the Dodge Nation Circuit Finals Rodeo. Thank you to Steve Sutton for letting all of the rodeo queens use his horses all week! After rehearsal, we headed to Lithia Dodge Auto Dealer to sign autographs and interact with customers. Our next stop was the Harley Davidson dealership. While at the Harley Davidson dealership we had a lot of fun dressing up in leather jackets and chaps, and taking pictures on the Harleys with customers. If customers wanted a picture with the rodeo queens, they could make a money donation that went towards breast cancer research. Our next location was Vickers Western Store where we signed autographs and mingled with customers. Then it was off to the rodeo! While at the rodeo we received a very special gift from Shane Passey. He made each queen a beautiful personalized flag boot! Thank you so much Shane!
Thursday we went to Indian Hills School where we visited with kindergartners while they ate pancakes! It was rodeo week at school, so they learned all about rodeo! Many of the children wore cowboy hats, bandannas and boots. After the children finished their pancake feed, we taught them all about the sport of rodeo and how it began. Then we got to tour the beautiful theatre of the Idaho State University. It was huge! It was very interesting getting to tour the building and learn more about plays. After our tour, it was time to shop! We went to the Cowboy Expo at the Red Lion where there were many vendors to look at. However, I didn't buy anything! Next we headed to the rodeo for the second performance of the week!
Friday was a little more laid back. In the morning we went to Hill Crest Nursing Home and visited the residents while they ate lunch. It was such a sweet group of people! I really enjoyed talking and spending time with them. Our next stop was Walmart. While at Walmart we raised money for the Primary Children's Medical Center. I was impressed by the generosity of people even in this tough economic time. After our visit to Walmart we had a chance to go back to the hotel to rest awhile before the rodeo.
Before I knew it, it was Saturday! In the morning we went to Holt Arena for the Exceptional Rodeo. The Exceptional rodeo is for special needs children. They got to ride horses, rope roping dummies, get their picture taken, and learn about each rough stock event! I had the opportunity to work with Colton. His favorite part was riding the horses! We stopped by the horse station to ride quite a few times! After the Exceptional Rodeo we headed to Cowboy Church, which was led by bullfighter Dusty Tuckness. He did a great job, and I really enjoyed the service. Next it was time for the afternoon rodeo performance and then the semifinals/finals night performance! Congratulations Columbia River Circuit winners B.J. Campbell and Russell Cardoza (team roping) and Barbra West (barrel racing). I am proud to say that Columbia River Circuit took second overall! If you would like more information about the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo please visit www.dncfr.org. The whole week was so much fun! Thank you Carma Madsen for coordinating the events this week! You did a great job, and it was a pleasure getting to know you! A huge thank you to Stan, Bob, Janet and Fred for driving us to each of our events and taking pictures!

Two Pageants In One Weekend!
My first stop over the weekend was the Miss Spokane Interstate Rodeo Pageant. After arriving in Spokane, we headed to Big R to pick two outfits to model for the fashion show in the evening. Thank you Big R for letting us model beautiful outfits from your store! After getting modeling outfits at Big R, we headed off to Clear Channel Radio for radio interviews by Paul "Coyote" Neumann on KIX 96! Then it was back to the hotel to get ready for orientation and fashion show. There were two contestants competing for the title of Miss Spokane Interstate Rodeo. The contestants were Jessica Davisson and Emily Houger. I already knew both of the contestants because I had met them previously at Rodeo Queen Boot Camp in Ogden, Utah. At the beginning of the fashion show they each gave a speech and answered four impromptu questions. After the pressure was off for the contestants it was time for them to have some fun and model! We modeled two Big R outfits, an elegance dress and the visiting royalty modeled chap outfits. The evening went very well, and both of the contestants did a great job. The remainder of the pageant took place Saturday morning, but I had to drive to Moses Lake that night in order to attend the Miss Moses Lake Roundup Pageant Saturday. Thank you to the Queen Coordinator Myra Metcalf. I had a great time at the pageant, and it was a pleasure to meet you! On Saturday I learned that Jessica Davisson was crowned 2009 Miss Spokane Interstate Rodeo! Congratulations Jessica! You will have a great year!
I arrived in Moses Lake late Friday evening and stayed at AmeriStay Inn and Suites. Thank you Ameristay Inn and Suites for the complimentary room. I enjoyed my stay! Saturday morning was the Horsemanship competition. There were four contestants competing in the Miss Moses Lake Roundup Pageant. The contestants were Kristen Mattson, Devan Thompson, Megan Lynn Kriete and Sara-Jane Prchal. After the the Horsemanship competition, we went to Michael's On The Lake for lunch. It had delicious food and a great view of the lake! Then the contestants, 2008 Miss Moses Lake Roundup Kylie Kooistra and I went to The Tack Shop and picked out an outfit to model at the fashion show and coronation presentation in the evening. A special thank you to The Tack Shop for donating clothes for us to model! After having fun picking out outfits, we went to the Pillar Rock Grill where the evening activities would take place. The contestants went through interviews while we waited for the fashion show to begin. I grew up in Quincy, so I was raised going to and competing in the Moses Lake Fair and Roundup. It felt good to see some familiar faces at the pageant. Everyone made me feel so welcome that I felt like I was at home again! When the fashion show began, we kicked the night off by modeling our Tack Shop outfits and dresses. Then the contestants each gave a speech, answered an impromptu question and had a one minute media interview. The contestants were nervous, but they did well under the pressure! After an intense evening of waiting for the results it was finally coronation time! Every contestant received at least one award, but Sara-Jane Prchal was crowned 2009 Miss Moses Lake Roundup! You did a great job Sara-Jane and I look forward to seeing you a lot this year! When I was younger, Sara-Jane and her older sister Jill and I showed horses together so it will be great to make many more memories with Sara-Jane this year! Thank you to Nolan, Jill and the rest of the Miss Moses Lake Roundup committee for your generosity and inviting me to participate in your pageant. I look forward to seeing all of you again at the Moses Lake Roundup in August!
Happy Trails!
